Boxing schedule for 2023: Every major fight night, dates, venues and results

IBF, WBA, WBO, IBO and The Ring world heavyweight champion belts

Planet Sport has all the results for every major boxing fight night across the world in 2023.

The 2023 boxing calendar saw some great clashes.

Anthony Joshua nudged his career back on track after beating Jermaine Franklin on points at the start of April. He then knocked down Robert Helenius in August and stopped Otto Wallin in December.

Gervonta Davis dished out the first defeat of Adam Garcia's career in their highly-anticipated catchweight fight in April.

While Canelo Alvarez retained his WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO and The Ring super middleweight titles after beating British fighter John Ryder by unanimous decision in May, and then Jermell Charlo in September.

Oleksandr Usyk retained his heavyweight crowns by knocking out Daniel Dubois in a controversial fight in late August.
He will face Tyson Fury in February 2024, following the British fighter being dumped on the canvas by MMA fighter Francis Ngannou in an exhibition fight in October. Fury eventually won on points...just.

December 26

Naoya Inoue stopped Marlon Tapales in the 10th-round to unify his WBC and WBO super-bantamweight belts with the defeated Filipino’s WBA and IBF titles.

 

December 23

Anthony Joshua took a step closer to regaining a version of the world heavyweight title when he defeated Otto Wallin in Saudi Arabia, while Joseph Parker’s delivers a shock defeat to Deontay Wilder on the same card.  Full report

 

December 16

Britain's Sunny Edwards fell to his first professional defeat as he was beaten by American Jesse Rodriguez to lose his IBF title in Arizona. Full report

 

December 10

Chris Billam-Smith completed his first successful defence of his WBO cruiserweight title against Mateusz Masternak after the ref ended the contest two seconds into round eight after Pole sustained an injury.

 

December 9

New WBC super-lightweight champion Devin Haney thrashed Regis Prograis in a dominant display that proves he is ready for more weight classes. Full report

Rafael Espinoza exited the ring at the Charles F. Dodge City Center in Florida as WBO World Featherweight champion after pulling off a stunning victory over Robeisy Ramirez. Full report

 

December 2

Ryan Garcia returned to the ring for the first time since his loss to Gervonta Davis to beat Oscar Duarte with an eighth-round KO.

 

November 25

Katie Taylor emerged victorious from a thrilling encounter with Chatelle Cameron with a majority decision to unite the light-welterweight belts. Full report

David Benavidez extended his unbeaten record to 28 after retaining the interim WBC super-middleweight title against fellow American Demetrius Andrade in six rounds.

 

November 18

Harry Scarff became the new British, Commonwealth and European welterweight champion after handing Ekow Essuman his first professional defeat. Full report

Adam Azim knocked Franck Petitjean down twice to claim the vacant European super-lightweight championship in Wolverhampton.

 

November 16

Shakur Stevenson became a three-division world champion after beating Edwin De Los Santos by unamious decision in Las Vegas to claim the vacant WBC lightweight title.

Emanuel Navarrete knocked Robson Conceicao to the canvas twice but had to settle for a majority draw to retain the WBO super-featherweight world title.

 

November 4

Joe Cordina retained his IBF super featherweight title with a majority decision win over Edward Vazquez in Monte Carlo. Full report

Noel Mikaelyan stopped former world champion Ilunga Makabu with a third-round technical knockout to claim the vacant WBC cruiserweight crown.

 

October 28

Tyson Fury had to pull himself up from the canvas to eventually out-point Francis Ngannou in their heavyweight boxing clash in Saudi Arabia. Full report

O'Shaquie Foster prevailed over Eduardo Hernandez to retain the WBC super-featherweight title after knocking him down twice. Full report

 

October 27

Amanda Serrano defeated Danila Ramos by unanimous decision to retain her WBO, WBA and IBF world featherweight titles, in the first women's world title fight held over 12, three-minute rounds since 2007.

 

October 21

Jack Catterall was pushed all the way by veteran Jorge Linares but earned a unanimous decision win and now wants another crack at Josh Taylor. Full report

October 15

Unbeaten Tim Tszyu defended his WBO light-middleweight title with a unanimous decision over Brian Mendoza on the Gold Coast.

 

October 14

Tommy Fury claimed a majority decision win over KSI in a scrappy cruiserweight headliner at a packed-out AO Arena in Manchester. Full report

Logan Paul was awarded a disqualification win over mixed martial arts fighter Dillon Danis, who lost all of the first five rounds before shooting for a take down in the last three minutes. Full report

Janibek Alimkhanuly beat Vincenzo Gualtieri by technical knockout in the 6th round to retain the WGO middleweight belt and claim the IBF strap.

 

October 7

Leigh Wood weathered the storm from Josh Warrington to eventually stop his British rival in a pulsating showdown at the Utilita Arena Sheffield. Full report

Terri Harper and Cecilia Braekhus battled out a majority draw in their light-middleweight unification fight.

September 30

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez chalked up his 60th professional victory in the ring when he out-classed Jermell Charlo to win by unanimous decision in Las Vegas. Full report

Zhilei Zhang delivered a devastating third-round knock-out to win his WBO interim heavyweight title rematch against Joe Joyce at Wembley Arena. Full report

 

September 18

Kenshiro Teraji retained the WBC, WBA and Ring light flyweight world titles belts after beating Hekkie Budler by TKO in the ninth round.

Unbeaten Junto Nakatani made the first successful defence of his WBO super flyweight title after knocking Argi Cortes to the canvas three times during his unanimous decision victory in Tokyo.

September 15

Luis Alberto Lopez defends his IBF featherweight world title in Texas after a 12 round battle with Joet Gonzalez.

September 2

Chris Eubank Jr stopped British rival Liam Smith in round 10 of their rematch to gain revenge for his defeat in January at the AO Arena in Manchester. Full report

Emanuel 'Vaquero' Navarrete beat Oscar Valdez via unanimous decision to retain the WBO super-featherweight belt.

August 5

Jake Paul dominated professional boxing debutant Nate Diaz through much of their 10-round fight and was rewarded with all judges agreeing he had won the fight. Full report

July 29

Terence Crawford became the undisputed welterweight champion after a dominant performance against Errol Spence Jr in Las Vegas. Full report

The unification bout for four super bantamweight titles lasted less than one round as Liam Davies flattened Jason Cunningham in the first round and forced the referee to call the fight. Full report

Nonito Donaire and Alexandro Santiago went toe-to-toe in Mexico for the WBC bantamweight title, with the latter making short work of his more experienced foe. Full report

July 25

It took eight rounds for Naoya "The Monster" Inoue to beat Stephen Fulton by technical knockout and it often looked like the Japanese fighter didn't need to step out of second gear. Full report

Lee McGregor suffered defeat in a punishing contest against Mexico's Erik Robles for the vacant IBO super-bantamweight title in Edinburgh. Full report

Carlos Adames beat Julian Williams by ninth-round TKO to retain his WBC interim middleweight title but there will be questions asked about why the referee stopped the fight so quickly. Full report

Kazuto Ioka managed to beat Joshua Franco convincingly with a unanimous points decision to claim the WBA junior bantamweight title but was disappointed that he was not able to knock Franco out. Full report

June 18

WBO interim junior middleweight champion Tim Tszyu underlined his credentials with a dominant first-round knockout of Carlos Ocampo to extend his record to 23-0 with 17 knockouts. Full report.

Regis Prograis emerged from a slow and tactical fight with a narrow split-decision win over Danielito Zorrilla to retain his 140lb title. Full report

British boxer Sunny Edwards successfully defended his IBF world flyweight title for a fourth time with a unanimous decision over Chilean Andres Campos at Wembley. Full report

Chris Billam-Smith was crowned the new WBO cruiserweight champion as he defeated Lawrence Okolie by majority decision in Bournemouth. Full report

Irish boxer Michael Conlan was knocked out by Luis Alberto Lopez in front of his home fans in Belfast as the Mexican defended his IBF world title. Full report

Leigh Wood had answers for everything that Mauricio Lara threw at him as he beat the Mexican to regain the WBA featherweight title. Full report

Rolando "Rolly" Romero was awarded the WBA super lightweight title after a bizarre ninth-round stoppage of Ismael Barroso by referee Tony Weeks. Full report

May 6

Guts alone were not enough for Jon Ryder as he went down to Canelo Alvarez in 12 rounds. Full report

Joshua Buatsi held off a strong challenge from Pawel Stepien to claim an important win and keep hold of his status as the WBA's No 1 ranked light-heavyweight contender. Full report

Gervonta Davis scored a dramatic knockout win against Ryan Garcia to advance his impressive professional record to 29-0, with 27 knockouts. Full report

Undefeated Welsh boxer Joe Cordina was taken the distance by Shavkat Rakhimov but was able to prevail in an exciting IBF super-featherweight title fight. Full report

David Morrell Jr. retained his WBA super middleweight title after knocking down Yamaguchi Falcao in the first round.
Morrell was supposed to fight Sena Agbeko on Saturday night. Falcao had been a late replacement for Ghana's Sena Agbeko after he was denied a license due to an abnormality detected during one of his medical exams.

April 15

Takuma Inoue wins the vacant WBA bantamweight belt after a unanimous decision win over Liborio Solis.

Jesse 'Bam' Rodriguez beats Cristian Gonzalez by unanimous decision to win the vacant WBO flyweight title.

Marlon Tapales upsets Murodjon Akhmadaliev by split decision to claim the WBA (Super) and IBF super-bantamweight titles.

Shakur Stevenson beats Shuichiro Yoshino by TKO in the 6th round.

April 1

Lawrence Okolie returned to action with an underwhelming points win over New Zealand's David Light in the third defence of his WBO cruiserweight title in Manchester. Full report

David Benavidez beat Caleb Plant by unanimous decision, with scores of 115-113, 116-112, 117-111, to become Canelo Alvarez's mandatory challenger for the super-middleweight crown.
Jose Ramirez proved too good for Richard Commey after knocking him down in the 11th round, and now wants another shot at the WBC super-lightweight title.

March 12

Tim Tszyu knocked out American Tony Harrison in the ninth round to claim the WBO super-welterweight crown.

March 4

Brandon "The Heartbreaker" Figueroa prevailed by unanimous decision in a closely-fought encounter against Mark "Magnifico" Magsayo for the vacant Interim WBC Featherweight Title. Full report

February 18

British boxer Leigh Wood surrendered his WBA featherweight world title after being leveled in the seventh round by Mexico's Mauricio Lara in Nottingham. Full report

Amanda Serrano beat Erika Cruz on points in New York to become undisputed featherweight world champion.
Meanwhile, Alycia Baumgardner became the new undisputed super featherweight champion, adding the WBA belt to the WBC, IBF, and WBO titles she already held with a unanimous points victory over Elhem Mekhaled.
