Regis Prograis only just manages to retain his title with split decision win over Danielito Zorrilla
Regis Prograis emerged from a slow and tactical fight with a narrow split-decision win over Danielito Zorrilla to retain his 140lb title.
Danielito Zorrilla had a clear game plan from the opening bell and it took Regis Prograis and many onlookers by surprise as Puerto Rican sat back and prepared for a tactical fight.
His defensive posture made it very difficult for Prograis to land clean punches and things got quite scrappy early on.
However, the result was just what he wanted as the American overstretched to force an opening, allowing Zorilla to land a few clean punches of his own.
The tactical, scrappy nature of the fight created by Zorrilla also made it very difficult for the judges to score and the eventual 118-109, 113-114 and 117-110 decision in favour of Prograis was a testament to this.
Despite winning the fight, Prograis felt the need to issue an apology to his hometown fans and promised to get back to training to sort things out as quickly as possible.
