Burnley vs Luton tips and predictions: Resilient Hatters to take latest step towards survival

Tahith Chong of Luton Town

Burnley welcome fellow Premier League relegation battlers Luton Town to Turf Moor on Friday night for a crucial clash (1945 GMT).

One game doesn’t make or break a season, but this particular fixture feels like it comes close as Burnley host Luton Town.

The Clarets are currently 19th in the Premier League table, four points behind their opponents and five points behind 17th-place Everton.

A win for Vincent Kompany’s side keeps them in touch with those above and blows the race wide open, while a loss could have dire consequences.

Victory for Rob Edwards’ side would see them leapfrog Everton and become the team to be shot at, sitting on 18 points compared to Burnley’s 11. They’d also have a game in hand.

The Clarets have lost 12 of 15 against Premier League opposition but two of their three wins this term came against fellow promoted sides Luton and Sheffield United.

With 35 points potentially enough to ensure survival and meetings with those teams alone worth 12, you can see the importance of this one-off match.

The Hatters' style and willingness to sit back has helped them adapt better to the challenges of the top flight, but much of their success has come at home.

They too beat Sheffield United in their most recent win, although luck was definitely on their side. Before that, they’d claimed four points in eight on their travels.

They’re not the most adventurous side and they’ve been limited to one or fewer goals in 13 of 19. Similarly, Burnley have managed two or more in five of 20.

It should be said that Vincent Kompany’s side looked more organised against Spurs and with some key attacking threats missing, there could be a lack of goalmouth action.
