Newcastle United vs Brentford: Carabao Cup quarter-final free betting tips, predictions and odds

alexander-isak16

In Wednesday's free bet builder tips, Newcastle United and Brentford will battle it out for a place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Newcastle and Brentford are neck and neck in the Premier League ahead of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup meeting. They are locked on 23 points with a plus-two goal difference.

Expectation defines perception and while the Bees have enjoyed as many wins as anyone outside the top five, Newcastle, who have won one fewer, will be frustrated by their inconsistency.

Their most recent setback was a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Brentford, so the home side will be hoping for a measure of revenge.

Tonight’s bet builder is priced at 7/1 at the time of writing.

Newcastle to win - 3/5

Both teams to score - 3/5

Alexander Isak: Over 3.5 shots - 4/5

Newcastle: over 20.5 shots - 7/5

Newcastle to win

Brentford’s 4-2 win just 11 days ago makes it very easy to back Newcastle to win this game.

The disparity between these sides’ home and away form means United are a likely winner, but the revenge angle is just the icing on the cake.

The free-scoring Bees pack a real sting at the Gtech Community Stadium, where all seven of their wins have taken place, but it’s absent on their travels.

Not only are they winless, but they’ve scored 20 fewer goals.

On the other hand, Howe’s side have beaten Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham at home, while also holding Liverpool and Man City to entertaining draws.

Both teams to score

Despite struggling to reproduce their home form on the road, Brentford have been consistent with their scoring.

Thomas Frank’s side have netted in each of their last six Premier League away games, a run which included trips to Aston Villa, Chelsea, Fulham, Man City, Man Utd and Tottenham.

That’s not to say this fixture is any easier, but the hosts are stretched very thin at the back.

Nick Pope, Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles and Emil Krafth are among those expected to miss out, leaving a defence that can be exploited.

Clean sheets at St James’ Park have been few and far between in 2024, with five of eight Premier League visitors this term finding the net.

Alexander Isak: Over 3.5 shots

We’re going to back Isak to continue a recent trend of taking four or more shots at goal.

He’s done it in each of his last two, with five goals involvements across his previous appearances.

Newcastle will come flying out of the traps after thumping Leicester 4-0 on the weekend, and Isak could be the main beneficiary of a more porous defence.

Brentford have failed to subdue teams outside of TW8, allowing just shy of 23 shots per game at their fragile goal.

Newcastle: Over 20.5 shots taken

For the reasons mentioned above, we’ll back the hosts to make a mockery of the 5/4 on offer for 21 or more shots at goal.

That’s still well below the average Brentford are allowing away to Premier League sides, and even that number could be surpassed on Wednesday.

If we see the quick start we’re anticipating, United could run up this number early and break Brentford spirits by half-time.
