Where next for Marcus Rashford? Latest odds as Man United ace ponders exit

Manchester United's Marcus Rashford

With the winter transfer window about to close, the future of Marcus Rashford is far from settled. Here, we take a look at the latest odds concerning the future of Manchester United’s former star man.

Before the January window opened, Rashford publicly revealed his desire to take on a new challenge. Since then, little has changed, Rashford remains at Old Trafford and Ruben Amorim appears to be growing in frustration.

The 27-year-old hasn’t played a single minute for the team since a 2-1 win over Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League. That was back in early December.

Eleven games have gone by, yet Amorim continues to snub the Englishman. Even going as far as questioning his commitment, telling the media in a recent interview that he would prefer to pick his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach over the player.

On one hand, United’s homegrown star has world class potential when performing at his optimal. Trouble is, the Englishman has been far from optimal for some time.

Difficult decisions will need to be made with regards to the forward. Here, we take a look at the list of options currently on the table.

Manchester United

(Now 9/4 – last month 7/1)

Rashford said he wants a new challenge but as things stand, that new challenge will be winning over Amorim at Man United.

The 27-year-old was priced as big as 7/1 to stay at Old Trafford last month. Those odds have now shortened to 9/4, with United being favourites to keep hold of their man.

And why not? The forward has a contract with the club which runs until June 2028. It’s a deal which sees Rashford earn around £325,000 per week – not bad for a current bench warmer.

Barcelona

(Now 5/2 – last month 9/4)

According to media reports, the Spanish giants are interested in securing Rashford’s signature, even willing to make it a loan deal before deciding on a permanent move.

The big hurdle which could ultimately thwart this deal from happening is the huge wage bill that comes with his signature.

Barcelona are already in a difficult financial situation, meaning the Englishman may need to lower his financial expectations if a move is to progress.

Borussia Dortmund

(Now 4/1 – last month N/A)

Borussia Dortmund has proved to be a desirable location for English players. The likes of Jadon Sancho, Jude Bellingham and currently Jamie Bynoe-Gittens have all thrived in Germany.

Trouble is, media outlets are reporting that Dortmund have been ‘priced out’ of a move for Rashford. BVB aren’t the wealthiest club in the world and the Englishman’s wages would have taken a significant chunk out of their budget. This move looks improbable.

AC Milan

(Now 10/1 – last month N/A)

Could Rashford follow Kyle Walker to AC Milan? Again, this one looks unlikely.

There are already four English players on the books at San Siro and at first glance, this does look like a smart move for Rashford.

Then again, the size of his wages and the fact Milan can only register two non-EU players per season adds extra levels of difficulty to this potential transfer.

Arsenal

(Now 20/1 – last month 7/1)

Arguably the most controversial move on the list is Arsenal, considering a move to a Premier League rival would undoubtedly aggravate the United supporters.

Then again, Arsenal have showed far more ambition than the Red Devils in recent years, challenging for the title and coming up agonisingly short.

Stranger things have happened and it’s no surprise to see Arsenal remain on the list.

Any Saudi Arabian club

(Now 20/1 – last month 7/1)

Speaking of a big weekly wage, Rashford could be tempted by a big cheque from one of the Saudi Pro League clubs.

The competition has already captured the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar Jr, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Karim Benzema, Ivan Toney and a plethora of other superstar names.

However, a move to Saudi Arabia would deny Rashford the opportunity to compete in Europe against some of the best clubs in the world – something he surely desires at his peak age.

Then again, staying at United could also deny him European football should the Red Devils continue to struggle in the Premier League.

Paris Saint-Germain

(Now 25/1 – last month 4/1)

Rashford was heavily linked with PSG at one point, though interest from the French side appears to have cooled.

The club spoke with Rashford’s representatives twice before the Englishman put pen to paper on a new deal at Old Trafford in the summer of 2023.

PSG are dominating the domestic scene as usual and are beginning to make strides with their new strategy – one which consists of having a lot fewer superstars and far more genuine hard workers. Question is, does that flow Rashford’s boat?
