Ronaldo still favourite for PFA Player of the Year but who will join him in the Team of Year?

Cristiano Ronaldo PFA Player of the Year 2007

Mo Salah and Romelu Lukaku are the Portuguese striker's main threats for the top award - and Graeme Bailey thinks the trio would make a pretty potent front three.

Seven games in and the Premier League is beginning to take shape. Planet Sport Bet has priced up their PFA Player of the Year market and to no one's surprise the early favourite is the returning legend that is Cristiano Ronaldo.
If he picks up the title at the end of the season, it would be the third time he has taken the honour, with the last coming back in 2008.

However, it is an award that hasn't been bestowed on a United player for more than a decade, with Wayne Rooney the last Red Devil to take the crown, in 2010.

Mo Salah is second favourite at 9/2 and has won it as recently as 2018, while the third in the betting is another striker in the shape of Romelu Lukaku - who has never won the award.

As it stands, Ronaldo, Salah and Lukaku would form a very impressive-looking front-three for the Team of the Year.

Graeme Bailey looks at how the rest of the Team of the Year is expected to line up, complete with Planet Sport Bet odds on the PFA Player of the Year.

Goalkeeper

David De Gea - Manchester United - Player of the Year odds 40/1

The Manchester United No. 1 looks to really have recaptured the form which saw him become one of the Premier League highest paid players, and he has been the top flight's best keeper over the opening two months.

Defence

Trent Alexander-Arnold - Liverpool - 40/1

The Liverpool right-back has had a very good season. The top-scoring defender in Fantasy Football, he is once again making a big contribution.

Virgil van Dijk - Liverpool - 20/1

Ruben Dias - Manchester City - 25/1

The two outstanding centre-halves season. Even at this point it is going to take some doing for anyone to get ahead of these two colossuses.

Luke Shaw - Manchester United - 50/1

The England left-back had an outstanding Euros and has carried that on into the season.

Midfield

Jack Grealish - Manchester City - 12/1

Planet Sport Bet's odds compilers have been very impressed with the British record signing. He's playing regularly under Pep Guardiola which helps when it comes to the overall award.

Kevin De Bruyne - Manchester City - 8/1

The Belgian superstar looks nailed on for a place in the PFA XI, being central to City and at 8/1 is the shortest priced midfielder available, alongside Bruno Fernandes.

Bruno Fernandes - Manchester United - 8/1

He has started the season well - penalty woes not withstanding - and may actually flourish with so much attention focused on a certain Portuguese team-mate.

Attack

Cristiano Ronaldo - Manchester United - 4/1

The returning United legend is a worthy favourite to take the PFA Player of the Year award and certainly has the media captivated. Makes as many headlines when he's not playing as he does for his goals.

Mo Salah - Liverpool - 9/2

Ronaldo's closest challenger in the betting is the Egyptian star, who has started the season in brilliant fashion. His wonder goal against Manchester City will help his cause, as would a credible Liverpool title tilt.

Romelu Lukaku - Chelsea - 7/1

Having made the return to Stamford Bridge, Lukaku is many peoples' fancy for top scorer. If he delivers that honour, then 7/1 for Player of the Year could be very good value.

We're only seven matches so there is still time for players like Paul PogbaHeung-min Son and Sadio Mane to force their way into the reckoning.

It's already looking a tall order for Tottenham's Harry Kane, however. The Spurs frontman, without a goal in the Premier League this season, has already drifted out to 16/1 to win the Player of the Year award.
