PURE RAIN (10) doesn't win very often but ran a strong race last time out over 6f at Mornington, finishing fourth and beaten 0.9 lengths. Meets some better types this time but a big run is on the cards. BARBARIC LAD (3) is back from a break of 12 weeks. Raced below par at his only appearance last prep when eighth over 7f at Caulfield. Capable of playing a major role. THE VIKING (6) impressed when successful as favourite on debut over 5½f at this track two-and-a-half weeks ago. Will come on following that run definite threat. VERDOUX (2) went forward and proved too strong on debut last start, scoring with 2 lengths to spare over 5½f at Werribee. Should enjoy a good run just off the speed. Do not underestimate.
