Weekend football acca: Man City to bounce back, Daniel Farke to haunt his old club, and more…

Daniel Farke manager of Leeds United with Archie Gray

After enjoying a well-earned rest during the international break, Rhys Tovey, who runs his AGF football service on Tipstrr, returns with his best bets from some of Saturday’s big games.

Can he hit the ground running to land us a tasty winning acca as domestic football takes centre stage once more?

Man City vs Brighton (Man City -1.5 AH)

Having lost three of their last four games, the international break came at a good time for Manchester City. Pep Guardiola will have had time to assess what went wrong in that run and I’d expect them to be fired up for the return to Premier League action.

They’ve won twenty-four matches in a row at home and come up against a Brighton side who are far better going forward than they are defensively. The Seagulls have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their eleven games in all competitions so far this term and it’s hard to see them keeping the score down against City on Saturday.

Man City to win by 2 or more goals at around even money looks like good value.

Norwich City vs Leeds Utd (Leeds to win)

Daniel Farke is back at Carrow Road on Saturday, this time however in the away dugout managing Leeds United. He enjoyed a lot of success at Norwich in the Championship and I’m backing him to come back to haunt his former side.

Norwich started the season well but have hit some bad form recently, losing four of their last six matches, not helped by the fact that their strike partnership of Ashley Barnes and Josh Sargeant are both injured for this one, and they’re coming up against a Leeds side who are starting to hit some form.

Leeds have one of the strongest squads in the league and are playing Norwich at a good time, so I’m backing them to win at odds of 11/10.

Stoke City vs Sunderland (Sunderland to win)

This is probably the riskiest of the four selections. Stoke, having started the season well at home with back-to-back victories, are currently on a three-game losing streak at the bet365 Stadium.

Those defeats were against Preston, Hull and Southampton, three sides that are all weaker sides than Sunderland, who come into this game with the exact opposite form, winning three away games in a row and scoring three goals in each of them.

They did lose 4-0 last time out at home to Middlesbrough, but a red card just before half-time with the score at 0-0 played a huge part in that defeat (which the PGMOL have since apologised for).

When checking the odds for this one, I was surprised that Stoke were favourites, considering both sides' recent form and the fact Stoke are currently 21st compared to Sunderland in 4th.

Sunderland at odds of 2/1 looks too good to turn down.

Charlton vs Reading (Charlton to win)

Since Michael Appleton’s appointment, Charlton are undefeated with three wins and three draws. All three of those victories have come at home and they face a Reading side who have only managed to pick up one point from a possible fifty-four in their last eighteen league games away from home.

Indeed the Royals have lost all six of their away trips in League One this season, and with Charlton’s upturn in form since the managerial change, the odds on a home win look solid at 3/4.
