PSG vs Borussia Dortmund tips: Defensive disasterclass at Parc des Princes
Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund will face off on Tuesday in the opening match of the UEFA Champions League season.
The game at Parc des Princes will feature two teams that are not having the best start to the season and seem to be struggling with the hangover of the past few months.
Paris Saint-Germain have not had a good start to the season and it is not surprising that it will take some time for things to click in the French capital.
Luis Enrique was a late appointment in the summer while the high-profile departures of Lionel Messi, Neymar, Marco Verratti and Sergio Ramos ushered in a new era.
Ousmane Dembele, Goncalo Ramos, Lucas Hernandez, Milan Skriniar, Randal Kolo Muani, Manuel Ugarte and Marco Asensio have all arrived.
Suggested bet: Over 3.5 goals
PSG drew their first two Ligue 1 matches, 0-0 at home against Lorient and 1-1 at Toulouse, where Kylian Mbappé scored on his return from injury.
Luis Enrique was discouraged by the slow start and insisted results would come. PSG duly dispatched Lens 3-1 before beating Lyon 4-1 away from home. Mbappe was at the double in both matches.
PSG's reliance on the French star was evident on Friday night as he scored another brace. That wasn’t enough as Parisians fell 3-2 to Didier Digard’s Nice side.
Their first defeat, in part, was down to a length injury list. Presnel Kimpembe, Nuno Mendes, Fabian Ruiz, Lee Kang-In, Marco Asensio and Nordi Mukiele will miss the match against Dortmund.
While Borussia Dortmund have not lost a match this season, unlike PSG, it’s fair to say it isn’t all sunshine and roses at Westfalenstadion.
Suggested bet: Both teams to score in both halves
The Black and Yellow seem to suffering the hangover of inexplicably throwing away the Bundesliga title, dropping crucial points against Bochum and Hedenheim.
Edin Terzic’s side made a positive start to the season with back-to-back wins and made a shaky start against Freiburg before Mats Hummels and Marco Reus struck in the dying seconds.
These teams last met in the 2019/20 season in the round of 16. Dortmund won the first leg 2-1 at home, but PSG won the second leg 2-0 to advance.
Neither team seems to have trouble finding the back of the net. The French champions have scored nine in three, while Dortmund have managed seven. However, they’ve both conceded five.
Both of these teams are still finding their way and their seasons have been plagued by defensive shortcomings, so Sergiu is expecting a high-scoring game on Tuesday.
Given the wild nature of their games so far this season, it seems a worthwhile risk to chance both teams finding the net in both halves, which is currently a juicy 11/2.
