Arsenal vs Liverpool tips and predictions: Pressure on Gunners to prove title credentials

Mikel Arteta shouts instructions to his Arsenal side from the touchline, Premier League 2021/22

There’s heavyweight action in the Premier League this Sunday as Arsenal host Liverpool at the Emirates in a match with major title implications (1630 GMT).

If you ask any relatively sane Premier League fan about the title race, most will tell you that it’s pretty much a two-horse race.

Liverpool may be the current league leaders, though many are still backing Manchester City to turn on the style and overtake their rivals at some point in the run-in.

Question is, what about Arsenal? Should we consider the Gunners as fellow title challengers?

Mikel Arteta’s men will answer that on Sunday when they welcome Liverpool to the capital.

A win for Arsenal will undoubtedly move them into the title conversation. A defeat, however, will surely consign the Gunners to the bronze medal race.

After losing three games in a row across all competitions, Arteta’s men finally returned to winning ways by knocking off Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are on an 11-match unbeaten run in all comps – a run which includes eight victories.

If that wasn’t impressive enough, don’t forget that the Merseyside outfit have lost just one of their last 19 domestic away matches.

Klopp’s men have also been ruthless in front of goal. In their last four games alone, the Reds have bagged 14 goals despite missing star forward Mohamed Salah.

With that in mind, we’re backing Liverpool to find the back of the net at the Emirates.

In fact, Liverpool to win the match and both teams to score is our main betting selection for this heavyweight encounter.

Team news

Arsenal will be without Thomas Partey, Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu. Fabio Vieira is a doubt.

Liverpool, meanwhile, will be missing Stefan Bajcetic, Wataru Endo, Joel Matip, Mohamed Salah, Thiago Alcantra and Konstantinos Tsimikas. Darwin Nunez is also a doubt.
