Thiago Silva wants Real Madrid's Carlo Ancelotti to be next Brazil manager
Chelsea's veteran defender Thiago Silva has added his voice to the growing number of players endorsing Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti for the vacant Brazil national team manager position.
Following a disappointing 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign that ended with Brazil's defeat to Croatia in the quarter-finals, the Selecao are on the lookout for a new leader.
There has been widespread speculation that Brazil may appoint a foreign manager for the first time in their history, with high-profile names like Jose Mourinho and Luis Enrique thrown into the mix. However, the strongest link has been with Ancelotti, who is rumoured to be leaving Real Madrid at the end of the season.
Silva, who has previously worked with Ancelotti during their time together at AC Milan, spoke highly of the Italian coach. "Being honest, I would love it to be him, because of the friendship we have and the understanding. He was my first coach in Europe, at Milan. What he has done throughout his career shows he is ready," Silva said in an interview with TJ Sports USA.
"I don't know if I'll be a part of the Brazil team, but I'd love him to accept the offer and make the team play the way he wants football to be played," added Silva.
Silva's current team, Chelsea, are currently trailing 2-0 to Ancelotti's Real Madrid in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final. The second leg of the fixture is set to take place at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
Despite the potential reunion on the pitch, Ancelotti has expressed his desire to stay at Real Madrid for the next season, stating in a recent interview, "I think so... The president has always been very affectionate with me and he still is. We have to look forward. We will be here next season without a doubt because we are going to respect the contract."
Ancelotti is widely regarded as one of football's most accomplished coaches, having won numerous domestic and European titles throughout his illustrious career. Last season, he made history by becoming the first manager to win all of Europe's top five leagues after clinching the La Liga title with Los Blancos.
As the speculation continues to mount, it remains to be seen who will ultimately take the reins of the Brazil national team. However, with support from players like Silva and a remarkable coaching resume, Ancelotti certainly seems to be a strong contender for the coveted position.
