Next Tottenham manager betting odds: Several big names jostle to takeover from under-fire Ange Postecoglou

mauricio-pochettino-celebrates-chelsea-victory16

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou is hanging on to his job by a thread. Who are the favourites to take on the role if he gets the boot?

Tottenham have been by far the hardest team to bet on this season, thanks to their wildly inconsistent performances.

But now they finally achieved some consistency, unfortunately that's with regular defeats and an expected bottom half finish in the Premier League.

If Postecoglou doesn't win the Europa League, the bell might tolling on his time at the club, and he's still one of the favourites to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked.

Here are the runners and riders to take the helm at Tottenham. All odds are correct at the time of the article's last update.

Mauricio Pochettino  (USA) - 5/2

Mauricio Pochettino

The romantic's pick is current USA boss Mauricio Pochettino, who led Tottenham to the promised land of zero trophies between 2014 and 2019.

Currently thinking is that Poch will come back as he now appears to be on a sticky wicket with the USA, as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup.

Losing to Panama in the CONCACAF Nations League semi-final drew a lot of criticism, and bigger test will come this summer in the Gold Cup, which the US are favourites.

Please remember this isn't a Football Manager save, managing a club and an international side at the same time, is rare and isn't that easy, and also annoys both your bosses.

Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth) - 9/2

Andoni Iraola

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola climbed from 10/1 to 11/2 a month ago, and is one of several joint-favourites for the Spurs job.

Two seasons ago most Tottenham fans had even heard of Andoni Iraola, now they are demanding he takes the helm.

You've got to feel sorry for Bournemouth fans, bigger clubs will always pick their most juicy cherries from the tree.

Thomas Frank (Brentford) - 11/2

Thomas Frank

In 2024, Thomas Frank started making noises about moving on from his Danish enclave in West London.

But sometimes the warm comfy slippers of what you know are better than taking the risk of a stiletto heel like Manchester United or some ballet flats like Tottenham.

Frank is the safe pair of hands that Tottenham probably need, but that would appear to be a very un-Spursy move.

He has shuttled between 25/1 and 100/1 in February, and he leapt to 11/2 after Spurs lost to Everton.

Marco Silva (Fulham) -  11/2

Marco Silva

Considering Marco Silva is only 47 he's had quite a nomadic career in the 13 years he's been a manager.

Fulham is his seventh club since he took over Estoril in 2011 and he appears to have settled in West London, as this is the longest time he's spent anywhere.

However, as his time at Watford showed he can have his head turned by another club fluttering their eyelashes at him - that time it was Everton and that didn't go very well.

He's done a great job at Fulham and his star is on the ascendancy once again, could he be lured across London?

He's one of the bigger market movers, jumping from 10/1 down to 11/2 after Fulham beat Leicester, and stayed there after the Man Utd defeat.

Kieran McKenna (Ipswich) - 15/2

kieran mckenna of Ipswich

The Ipswich manager shot up this market before Christmas and is still among the big players for the job.

This is probably nothing more than some wild media speculation and that he worked in the Tottenham academy, so will be worth keeping an eye on.

Ipswich on the verge of a return to the Championship hasn't helped his odds of taking over Spurs.

Edin Terzic (no current club) - 9/1

Edin Terzic

Edin Terzic was favourite for the job over Christmas, but has started to drift after that.

The 42-year-old took Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final and lost the league title on goal difference to Bayern Munich on the final day of the season.

Claims that the former Borussia Dortmund boss was about to replace Postecoglou started to circulate around Christmas and aren't going away.

Besiktas presidential candidate Serdal Adali recently announced that Terzic expects to succeed Postecoglou at Tottenham and that's why the Turkish club have given him a swerve.

There's been much wailing from Spurs fans about the rumour as you'd expect, but luckily for them he's now down to 9/1.

Thiago Motta (no club) -12/1

Thiago Motta

Straight in at 12/1 after being sacked by Juventus in March, Motta was a highly-rated manager before he moved to Turin.

Motta led Serie A side Bologna to ninth in his first season, and then Champions League qualification in 2023/24, for the first since time since the 1964/65 European Cup, by finishing fifth. He also saved Spezia from relegation from Serie A before he joined Bologna.

Juventus is a tough place to be if things aren't going your way, so maybe Tottenham might be more his pace.

Erik ten Hag (no club) - 14/1

Erik ten Hag

This will be another appointment that could send the Tottenham faithful into a rage, the latest failed Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

He was nowhere in this market in January, but has jumped in at 10/1 after reports from the Spanish media linked the Dutchman with the role.

Manchester United fans will be spitting feathers if Ten Hag turns Spurs' fortunes around... finishing above the Reds in 11th.

Though rumours of Ten Hag wandering around Roma saw his odds push out to 14/1.

Brendan Rodgers (Celtic) - 14/1

Brendan Rodgers

The former Leicester boss continues to pick up silverware at Celtic and is looking more appealing than he was at the start of the year, coming in from 25/1 to 14/1.

After leaving his first spell at Celtic for the bright lights of er...Leicester, bookies know that Rodgers can be lured from Glasgow.

Eddie Howe (Newcastle) -  14/1

Eddie Howe

Jumping from one club with delusions of grandeur to another, just with fewer black stripes on their shirt, might be the perfect move for Eddie Howe.

Though he left Bournemouth for what he considered to be a step up in Burnley (yes, that was a thing) and it didn't work out very well for him.

Sometimes it's just best to stay put and bask in the love of your fans, rather having to do it all again somewhere else.

Gareth Southgate (no club) - 14/1

Gareth Southgate

Starting to feel a bit sorry for Gareth Southgate, he did a great job with England and yet the negativity around Euro 2024, even though they got to the final, appears to have blotted his copy book.

Unless he hangs on for a huge job, then Tottenham is the kind of club he could ease himself back into club management with, even though it would turn the Spurs faithful purple with rage.

If Rooney and Lampard can get a Championship job by being very ordinary managers, then Southgate should aim a lot higher.

Scott Parker (Burnley) - 16/1

Scott Parker

Former Tottenham player - tick

Premier League managerial experience - tick

European managerial experience - tick

Loves a 0-0 draw - tick

That'll stop Spurs fans moaning about being too easy to beat.

Massimiliano Allegri (no club) - 16/1

Massimiliano Allegri

Unemployed after leaving Juventus in the summer, Allegri being given the Tottenham hotseat looks like a big step down for the Italian.

For a start he’s won the Serie A five times with Juventus and once with AC Milan, plus multiple Coppa Italias and two Champions League runners’ up medals.

No offence to Spurs but why would Allegri want to slum it in North London in a potential relegation dogfight.

It would take a serious clump of cash to lure Allegri to Tottenham.

Xavi Hernandez (no club) - 16/1

Xavi Hernandez

Looks like a sparkly appointment on the surface, but being a great player does not guarantee being a great manager.

Managed to win the 2022/23 La Liga with Barcelona, but struggled in the Champions League and that's what finished him off in the end.

Didn't have a great relationship with the Barcelona board, and for Xavi this could be stepping from one fire into another.

Xabi Alonso (Bayer Leverkusen) - 20/1

Xabi Alonso

It seemed like the stars were aligning for Xabi Alonso in the summer of 2024 when the Liverpool job came available, but he decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen after an unbeaten season saw them break Bayern Munich's dominance in the Bundesliga.

Alonso appears to be the exciting choice for big clubs across Europe and Tottenham, along with Manchester City, have him high on their target list.

The arrogance of the bigger clubs is that Leverkusen are small fry compared to them, so Alonso is bound to jump ship at some point in his career.

They haven't factored in that maybe Alonso might have a bit more honour and loyalty than they thought.

Michael Carrick (Middlesbrough) - 20/1

Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick

Former Tottenham midfielder who made over sixty appearances for the club, and then like so many others left and became even better.

He’s done a solid job at Middlesbrough without taking them back to the promised land, and is considered a manager with a great deal of potential.

An inexperienced Championship manager would feel like a big risk to Tottenham, when they tend to go for managers with a big reputation or Premier League know-how.

Although that hasn't worked for them recently, so perhaps a fresh approach is needed.

Ryan Mason (Tottenham coach) - 25/1

Ryan Mason

Didn't take long for two-time Spurs interim manager Mason to emerge as one of the favourites for the role.

As one of Postecoglou's assistant coaches and is the obvious and cheapest choice to be drafted in to tread water while Tottenham look for another manager over the summer.

Mason has managed 13 Tottenham matches and has a record of six times, one draw and six loses.

His odds have dropped from an initial 9/1 down to 25/1.

Steven Gerrard (no club) - 25/1

Steven Gerrard

Now looking for a new club after leaving Saudi outfit Al-Ettifaq in late January. This would be a wild choice.

Though Gerrard won the Scottish title at Rangers, he didn't cover himself in glory at Aston Villa or tucked away in the Saudi Pro League.

Julian Nagelsmann (Germany) - 25/1

Julian Nagelsmann

That Tottenham believe that they are a big enough club to lure a top international manager away from his job is certainly admirable.

Once again Nagelsmann would really have to drop the ball with Germany to be in the running for this job, if he'd even consider it.

Roberto De Zerbi (Marseille) - 25/1

Roberto De Zerbi

The former Brighton boss is doing a grand job at Marseille as they chase the coattails of PSG in Ligue 1.

Granted this is where Marseille usually end up, apart from last season, so maybe it's not that impressive.

De Zerbi, who was a target for some major European clubs, had second season syndrome at Brighton and reportedly fell out with the board, which already sounds a perfect fit for the next Tottenham boss.

Didier Deschamps (France) -  33/1

Didier Deschamps

The current France boss shot up this market to 8/1 after the annoucement of Graham Potter appointment at West Ham, but sense prevailed and he's now levelled out at 33/1.

It feels a bit left field, as he's still got another 18 months on his contract with the France national side and is preparing for the 2026 World Cup.

But he has said he will step down after that tournament. It certainly feels like Tottenham will have to wait a long time if they go down this route.

Unai Emery (Aston Villa) - 50/1

Bit of an odd one having the former Arsenal manager fairly high up the Tottenham market.

He's done a fantastic job at Villa, and they are similar sort of clubs in size and expectation.

But we can't see him jumping ship to return to North London.

Jose Mourinho (Fenerbahce) - 125/1

Jose Mourinho

Never return to a lit firework, ex-partner or restaurant that once gave you food poisoning.

These rules apply here too, even though Jose Mourinho laughs in the face of a used sparkler that hasn't been placed carefully in a bucket of water.

His odds have been dropping by the week, from 66/1 to 125/1.
