Burnley winger Dwight McNeil closes in on £20m Everton move
Everton are close to completing their third signing of the summer, with Burnley’s Dwight McNeil set to sign a long-term deal.
The Toffees are edging closer towards completing their £20m move, including add-ons, for the Burnley winger.
McNeil is understood to have agreed personal terms on a five-year contract which would keep him at Goodison Park until the summer of 2027.
The 22-year-old will become Everton's third summer addition should the deal go through. He will follow in the footsteps of Burnley teammate James Tarkowski and on-loan Sporting Lisbon defender, Ruben Vinagre.
The Toffees were interested in another Burnley forward, Maxwel Cornet, though the club failed to agree terms.
Everton's sole attention is now on McNeil, who was on the wish list of former Toffees boss Rafael Benitez.
Current manager Frank Lampard is in need of attacking options following the departure of Brazil international Richarlison.
While McNeil may not be a striker, he does boast a lot of Premier League experience, having amassed 134 appearances in the competition with the Clarets.
Since their relegation to the Championship, a number of key players have departed Burnley, including Tarkowski and Ben Mee.
McNeil is now expected to join that list as he looks to continue playing in England's top division.
When asked about possible departures, new Burnley boss Vincent Kompany said: "There have been a lot of conversations behind the scenes.
"These happen on a club-to-club level. We will have to see how it develops in the next few days."
