Barcelona to spend 2023/24 season in Montjuic amid Camp Nou redevlopments

Barcelona will temporarily move home in the 2023/24 season

After Barcelona revealed plans to redevelop Camp Nou earlier this year, the Spanish club have announced they'll change home ground for the 2023/24 season.

The Camp Nou is one of the most historic and iconic sporting venues around the globe, home to the legendary FC Barcelona.

The Catalan club announced earlier this year that the 99,000 capacity stadium is undergoing renovations, with the total cost expected to rise to £1.26billion.
The work will start at the end of the current 2021/22 season, and is expected to take up to four years to complete.
However, with the initial focus of the redevelopment being focused around improving the first and second tier - as well as improving technological facilities and upgrades to the exterior - fans are expected to be allowed to attend next season.
The third tier will be rebuilt in 2023 if all goes according to plan, and with the stadium out of use during that time, Barcelona have announced that they'll be temporarily moving home.
For the 2023/24 season, Barca will play their home games at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys - the home of the 1992 Olympics.
The stadium is based in Montjuic, a mountainous district of Barcelona roughly eight kilometres away from Camp Nou.
The venue holds a capacity of 60,700 seats, so is a considerable step down from Barcelona's current setup, but with the distance very close to their iconic home it was chosen as the best option.
Work on Camp Nou will continue during the 2024/25 season but fans are expected to return there for home games, albeit with a 50% capacity.
Regarding Barcelona's new stadium plans, club president Joan Laporta said "It will be the best stadium in the world, in the best city in the world, and in the best country in the world."
