Barcelona news: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang shines in El Clasico rout

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scores for Barcelona

Former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continued his remarkable scoring run for new club Barcelona in 4-0 win at Real Madrid.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continued his rejuvenation at Barcelona with another two goals in a majestic 4-0 El Clasico hammering of fierce rivals Real Madrid.
Aubameyang opened and finished the scoring for Xavi's new-look Barcelona as they handed out a footballing lesson to current La Liga leaders Real Madrid in their own back yard.

Real Madrid are still 12 points ahead of Barca and will fancy winning the league, but Xavi's side have a game in hand and could well give their old rivals something to think about down the stretch.

Xavi even insisted his side "could have scored more" and says that the manner of the victory not only suggests that Barcelona are back, but also acted as some form of validation for a number of his players, including Aubameyang, who had been labelled as finished.

"The meaning of this victory, I think it can change, more or less, the dynamics of the present and also of the future," said Xavi.
"It's very difficult to win 4-0 at the Bernabeu playing so well, and I'm very happy for the players, because some of them were going through difficult times in their careers.
"They were criticised and judged, and today they have proved they are wonderful players.
"They have personalities, they are bold, and this is the way forward."

Career far from over for Auba

The form of Aubameyang and fellow January signing Ferran Torres has been a large part of Barcelona's resurgence, and it's especially surprising for the former Arsenal man given how he departed the Emirates.
Goals were never really a problem for Aubameyang, who scored 92 in 163 games for the Gunners, but repeated disciplinary issues saw him stripped of the captaincy and Mikel Arteta was happy to ship him out on a free.

Far from it being a comfortable Spanish swansong for 32-year-old Aubameyang, the Gabon striker has hit the ground running, scoring nine goals in 11 games for Xavi's improving side.

"Hello from the finished player," Aubameyang tweeted after the game as he hit out at his detractors.
Aubameyang is averaging over a goal per 90 minutes played for Barca so far, and making such an immediate impact is rare for a new signing - especially a January signing.
Xavi's coaching, perhaps an easier league and playing with more creative players could all be reasons for Aubameyang's resurgence, but in truth it's likely to be more of a mindset - as he's always scored goals.
Comments from the man himself suggest that he was simply ready for a move, and is far happier playing in Barcelona now.
"I was very excited to come to Barcelona and do well," Aubameyang added. "It's very easy when you play with such good players."
