Man Utd vs Liverpool tips and predictions: Premier League classic to deliver another thriller

Erik ten Hag

Liverpool will be looking to end the weekend at the top of the Premier League standings when they travel to Old Trafford this Sunday (1530 BST).

La Liga has El Clasico. Germany has Der Klassiker. Even France has Le Classique. Over in England, we have Manchester United against Liverpool.

The two most successful clubs in English football history go head-to-head this Sunday for the third time this season.

The first match took place in December as the Red Devils earned a goalless draw away at Anfield.

The second encounter took place three weeks ago in the FA Cup as Man Utd picked up a 4-3 victory over the Reds in arguably the greatest match in the competition’s history.

The trilogy is expected to deliver more drama as Liverpool continue their push for the title and United look to bounce back from their recent slip-ups.

While Liverpool are winless in their last two visits to Old Trafford, United's last two performances fill us with doubt.

Erik ten Hag’s men dropped two points at Brentford as they conceded a 99th minute equaliser. Just a few days later, the Dutchman watched on as his men squandered a 3-2 lead against Chelsea by conceding two goals after the 99th minute.

Over those two matches, United have faced 59 shots – an unprecedented number.

If Liverpool are allowed the same kind of comforts, expect Jurgen Klopp’s men to turn on the style and score a few goals.

The visitors to score over 1.5 goals is our suggested bet. Liverpool to win by a single goal margin is another enticing option.

Team news

Man Utd are heading into the match without Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, Anthony Martial, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw. There are also doubts over Casemiro, Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are missing Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson, Diogo Jota, Joel Matip and Thiago.
