Dortmund vs Werder Bremen tips and predictions: BVB too strong for Bundesliga strugglers

Borussia Dortmund Julian Brandt

Dortmund tackle Werder Bremen at Signal Iduna Park to open round eight in the Bundesliga on Friday evening (1930 BST).

It will be a match between two teams that are in very different situations. Dortmund are fighting for top slot while Werder Bremen are already scraping down the bottom.

Borussia Dortmund are still undefeated teams after seven rounds in the Bundesliga, alongside Bayern Munich and the leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

BVB come into this match on the back of four consecutive league wins.

The last of those wins, was perhaps one of the most important, as it was a home win against another one of Germany’s representatives in the Champions League, Union Berlin.

In a spectacular game, Dortmund opened the scoring, but Union managed to go into half-time with a 2-1 lead. Before the Black and Yellows turned it round after the break to claim a 4-2 win.

It was also a 4-2 away game win against Freiburg, the match that started their four game winning streak in the Bundesliga. After that they lost away against PSG in the Champions League, followed by wins against Wolfsburg 1-0 at home and Hoffenheim 3-1 away.

Even though they have four consecutive wins in the league, in Europe Dortmund have looked a litte limp and have failed to score a goal in their two matches so far.

Werder Bremen have started the season poorly, picking up just six points, after two wins and five defeats.

The international break came at a right time for Werder, who suffered two consecutive defeats in the last two rounds - a 2-4 defeat against the newly promoted Darmstadt, who led 4-0 until the 70th minute, and then a 2-3 defeat to Hoffenheim.

Werder came from behind twice, and looked like they'd claimed a point in the 91st minute until a heartbreaking winner from Marius Bulter a minute later consigned them to another defeat in front of 41,000 fans.

Werder Bremen’s only points this season have come at home, after the wins against FC Koln and Mainz 4-0, but they did manage a victory on their last trip to Signal Iduna Park - coming from behind to grab a 3-2 win in the 95th minute.

But this match doesn't bode well for the River Islanders, Dortmund are undefeated at home for more than a year and Bremen have shipped 12 goals in their last four matches.

Three of the last four games played by Dortmund in the Bundesliga have ended with the BVB scoring at least three goals.

Suggested bets:

Borussia Dortmund to win
Over 2.5 goals
Half time/Full time-Borussia Dortmund
