Hull vs Coventry team news
Ozan Tufan is expected to return for Hull City meaning Adama Traore could make way. The influential Turk has scored four goals in four appearances this season.
Alfie Jones and Jacob Greaves will continue at the heart of the defence with Ruben Vinagre, Jean Michael Seri, Liam Delap and Aaron Connolly retaining their places.
Visitors Coventry will persist with Ben Sheaf, Josh Eccles and Kasey Palmer in the midfield flanked by Jay Dasilva and Milan van Ewijk on either side.
Top-scorer Matt Godden will spearhead the attack and is likely to be joined by Hadji Wright with Ellis Simms waiting in the wings.
Hull vs Coventry preview
Planet Sport was optimistic about Liam Rosenior’s chances of guiding Hull to a top-six finish before the campaign started and their form thus far has justified it.
After a disappointing late loss against Norwich on opening day, the Tigers have gone four unbeaten in the league, beating Sheffield Wednesday, Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City.
The latter results came away from home which shows their progression under Rosenior. His side are now unbeaten in 24 of their previous 26 matches dating back to late 2022.
Coventry City will make for formidable opponents on Friday night. The Sky Blues have followed a similar trajectory by going unbeaten since their opening-day loss in Leicester.
However, Mark Robin's men have struggled to turn one point into three, throwing away the lead four times while drawing with Swansea, Sunderland and Watford.
Their 3-0 victory against Middlesbrough remains the standout result and despite drawing three consecutive matches, creating chances hasn’t been an issue.
The visitors have produced 7.50 expected goals across five matches so far this season which has translated to eight league goals.
Despite their fantastic form, Hull City have lived dangerously. No side has conceded a higher expected goal value than the 9.70 they’ve allowed.
It’s been somewhat evident in the fact they’ve conceded in four or five matches, allowing six in total, but the worst could be yet to come if you believe in all things being equal.
Matt Godden has capably filled Viktor Gyokeres’ boots with four goals in his last five matches. No striker in the Championship has a higher xG than Godden.
Coventry have been threatening to run riot against someone and as good as Hull have been, they are open. We expect the visitors to punish them at least once in an entertaining game.
