Wolves target Danny Ings' miserable spell at injury-hit West Ham could continue
Wolves might have to wait before they can land the loan signing of West Ham forward Danny Ings as the East London outfit is struggling with injuries.
Wolves are understood to be interested in a loan move for the 31-year-old striker, who has started just one Premier League match this season.
But fellow Hammers frontman Michail Antonio has suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury, meaning boss David Moyes cannot afford to let Ings leave as things stand.
Injuries to top-scorer Jarrod Bowen and Brazilian playmaker Lucas Paqueta during Sunday’s FA Cup draw with Bristol City have not helped either.
Antonio hurt his knee playing for Jamaica in November and was initially expected to be sidelined for three weeks.
The 33-year-old recently returned to training but felt the knee again on Friday after a slip and will undergo another scan to determine the extent of the issue.
Bowen and Paqueta will also have scans after limping off at the weekend.
England hopeful Bowen, who scored West Ham’s goal in the 1-1 draw, went down holding his ankle in stoppage time and had to be helped from the pitch after the final whistle.
Paqueta missed last week’s draw with Brighton with a knee injury and, shortly after setting up Bowen’s goal, suffered a problem with the same knee.
The Hammers also lost Konstantinos Mavropanos to a shoulder injury after landing awkwardly following an aerial challenge with City goalscorer Tommy Conway.
That blow came just two days after Thilo Kehrer was loaned to Monaco, and with Nayef Aguerd at the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco, Moyes is now short of options at centre-half.
However, Moyes insists he is not about to go panic buying this month.
“I don’t think so, I don’t think it would necessarily play a part,” he said.
“Maybe if we’re going to lose people long term, but I’ve not heard anything to suggest anybody’s severe.”
Moyes could have done without an FA Cup replay next week but the Hammers could not find a winner, with substitute Ings firing their best chance wide.
Championship side City fully deserved their draw and boss Liam Manning said: “We’re not coming away with a replay feeling like we stole it. We put a benchmark down for the level we’re capable of.”
