Tottenham snatch highly-rated Swedish teen Lucas Bergvall from Barcelona's grasp
Tottenham have managed to beat Barcelona to the signature of highly-rated Sweden teenager Lucas Bergvall.
Bergvall had looked set to sign for Barca after visiting the city earlier this week, but Spurs were able to convince the midfielder to commit his long-term future to the Premier League club.
Bergvall was at Tottenham's training ground on Monday, according to reports, and completed a medical at the club on Friday – his 18th birthday.
After enjoying a breakthrough season with Djurgarden in the Allsvenskan, Bergvall has signed a contract until 2029 with Spurs, but will not officially join his new club until the summer.
Bergvall, who played 29 times for Djurgarden last season, made his full international debut for Sweden in January and will link up with compatriot Dejan Kulusevski in north London.
Djurgarden announced they had received a club-record fee for the teenager, with reports suggesting Spurs have paid in the region of 10million euros (£8.5m).
Bergvall said on the Djurgarden website: "It is a great feeling to sign for Tottenham and a dream to have the opportunity to play in the Premier League. I have received an incredibly warm reception from the club and feel really welcome."
