Tottenham Hotspur close to signing James Maddison after fee agreed with Leicester City
James Maddison is reportedly heading to London for a medical on Wednesday after Leicester City accepted a bid believed to be in the region of £40million with add-ons.
According to The Athletic, Tottenham are nearing a deal to sign James Maddison from Leicester City.
The deal is believed to involve around £40m upfront with performance-related add-ons. Amid interest from several clubs, including Newcastle United, it appeared as if Leicester were holding out for somewhere closer to £60m but Spurs seems to have convinced them to take less upfront with the extras.
Maddison arrived at the Foxes from Norwich in 2018 and the 26 had a fantastic season in 2022-23, playing 32 times for the club, scoring 10 goals and providing nine assists from midfield.
However, his performances were unable to help prevent Leicester from being relegated from the Premier League and Maddison's expected departure is going to form what will become something of a player exodus.
Caglar Soyuncu, Ayoze Perez, Daniel Amartey, Nampalys Mendy and Ryan Bertrand are all expected to leave at some point during the summer and Youri Tielemans has already joined Aston Villa.
