Tottenham goalkeeper returns to Serie A as club prepare to announce replacement

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini

Pierluigi Gollini has returned to parent club Atalanta after his season-long loan at Tottenham officially came to an end.

The Italian shot stopper made just 10 appearances for Spurs as he spent much of the campaign as a back-up to French international Hugo Lloris.

The 27-year-old will now return to Atalanta having not featured in a match since January's Carabao Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea.

Tottenham, who had an obligation to make the deal permanent if the keeper met certain criteria during his loan, said in a statement: "We can confirm the departure of Pierluigi Gollini following the conclusion of his loan spell from Atalanta.

"The goalkeeper joined us last July for the duration of the 2021/22 season and made 10 appearances in our colours.
"We thank Pierluigi for his service and wish him well for the future."

Spurs have already lined-up a replacement in the form of Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

Last week, the 34-year-old was at Tottenham's training ground to undergo a medical ahead of the proposed move.

With Fraser's contract at Southampton coming to an end this summer, Tottenham will get the player on a free transfer.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte is expected to have a busy summer as he looks to transform his side into a trophy chasing machine.

The Italian has already got one deal over the line, with Ivan Perisic swapping Inter Milan for north London.
Just like Fraser, the 33-year-old joined Tottenham on a free transfer as he links up with his former Inter boss.
