Kamara? Aribo? Kent? Defoe? - Who will Gerrard be raiding Rangers for?

Steven Gerrad Jermain Defoe Rangers Dec20

New Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is tipped to bring in reinforcements from his former club in January. Graeme Bailey assesses the most likely candidates to follow him to Villa Park.

Steven Gerrard has barely got his feet under the managerial desk at Villa Park and is still assessing his squad. Nevertheless, a raid on his Scottish Premiership-winning squad is likely.
Graeme Bailey looks at the most likely candidates to join the England legend in the January window, plus a longshot at a decent price.

Glen Kamara

The Finnish international arrived at Rangers from Dundee and immediately became a key player under Gerrard. He signed a new deal earlier this year, but he is clearly a player the former England legend loves.

At 3/1, Kamara is joint-favourite with the bookmakers to follow him to Birmingham in January.

Joe Aribo

Nigerian international Aribo has been a huge success at Rangers since joining from Charlton Athletic and he has emerged as a big performer for Gerrard.
No surprise to see that he is just 3/1 to link-up with his former boss.

Ryan Kent

The former Liverpool winger has performed brilliantly for Gerrard and he has been strongly linked with a move to Leeds in recent windows.

Kent clearly sees his long-term future back in England and Gerrard thinks a lot of Kent, dating back to their days at Anfield together. He is just 4/1 to move.

Ianis Hagi

The son of Romanian legend Gheorghe was a player Gerrard fought hard to get in 2020 and he is very highly rated.
A move to the Premier League would surely appeal and Villa could be the perfect place for him to develop under Gerrard. It is 5/1 for him to make the move.

Nathan Patterson

Reportedly one of Gerrard's top targets. Patterson has come through the ranks at Ibrox under Gerrard's tutelage. Patterson is seen as one of the top defensive prospects in Europe, but the fact Rangers also have James Tavernier could mean he is available.
Patterson is rated as 6/1 to make the move.

Alfredo Morelos

The Colombian striker is something of a Rangers legend, but he has proven himself as a top goalscorer in Scotland. Former Celtic star Odsonne Edouard's performances at Crystal Palace could be an indication as to what Morelos is capable of and at 6/1 he might not be a bad bet to move.

Connor Goldson

Another 6/1 shot is commanding former Brighton defender Connor Goldson. Has been a rock in the Rangers defence and a move back to England can't be ruled out.

Jermain Defoe

Could the former England striker be tempted back for one more chance at the Premier League? He is currently doing his coaching badges, but could there be a player role for the 39-year-old at Villa Park. Don't rule it out and at 10/1 he is a good price, too.
