Real Madrid's dilemma: Miguel Gutiérrez shines, wanted by Europe's giants

Miguel Gutierrez of Girona FC

In the La Liga match between Barcelona and Girona, it was Miguel Gutiérrez who stole the limelight, securing a 4-2 victory for Girona and earning himself the coveted MVP title.

This stellar performance has thrust the left-back into the spotlight, making him a hot commodity as the January transfer window approaches.

Gutiérrez's prowess was on full display as he netted a stunning goal against Barcelona and has contributed three crucial assists so far this season. The talented defender's future is now the subject of intense speculation, with top European clubs expressing interest, and Real Madrid at the centre of it all, according to a report by Relevo.

Real Madrid had earlier sold Gutiérrez to Girona, retaining 50% of his rights for a fee of €5million. The deal came with a unique clause allowing Real to repurchase him for €8million next summer. Currently under contract with Girona until 2027, Gutiérrez has a release clause set at €35million, mirroring the situation of Fran García last January.

Gutiérrez's standout performance against Barcelona has reportedly intensified interest from potential suitors, including Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Arsenal. As January approaches, European football giants are expected to make their move, navigating through Real Madrid's right of first refusal.

Should an offer be tabled for Gutiérrez, Real Madrid face a time-sensitive decision. Similar to the situation with Fran García, who attracted attention from Bayer Leverkusen, the club must act swiftly if they wish to exercise their buy-back option. The dynamics of the transfer market suggest that Girona might lean towards a January sale, anticipating a quicker departure for Gutiérrez, especially considering Real Madrid's option to repurchase him at a reduced fee in the summer.

In the Real Madrid camp, there appears to be a sense of calm. While they acknowledge Gutiérrez's stellar season, their primary target is Alphonso Davies. The Canadian full-back is marked as a top priority for the club. The decision to sell defender Ferland Mendy in the summer is still on the table, despite his contract running until 2025, and the club's faith in him under Carlo Ancelotti.

Fran García's recent inclusion in the plans adds another layer of complexity, and for now, Real Madrid remain cautious about making any sudden moves. The puzzle of fitting Miguel Gutiérrez into the Real Madrid squad appears intricate, especially with Bayern Munich involved in both the Davies and Gutiérrez scenarios. This could lead to a tightening of the noose as early as January, adding further intrigue to Gutiérrez's imminent transfer saga.
