Real Madrid set sights on rising defensive talent: Lille's Leny Yoro

Leny Yoro of Lille

Real Madrid, the Spanish football giants, are keeping a keen eye on their defensive options as they plan for the 2024 summer transfer window.

Their latest target is none other than the 17-year-old sensation from Lille, Leny Yoro, according to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT.

Hailing from France, Yoro's journey through the football academies has been nothing short of impressive. Starting at UJA Alfortville, he honed his skills for five years at Villeneuve d'Ascq Metropole before eventually making his way to LOSC Lille in 2017.

The young French talent has experienced a meteoric rise in his career, culminating in his first-team debut in May 2022. Yoro achieved the distinction of becoming the second-youngest debutant in the history of Les Dogues. Since then, he has been a regular presence on the field, featuring in nine matches and even contributing with two goals this season.

Yoro's remarkable progress has garnered attention from some of the football world's top clubs. Barcelona have been in the mix as a potential suitor for the budding star, setting the stage for a fierce transfer battle. However, Real Madrid are also vying for his signature, making it a tantalizing duel between the Spanish giants.

The urgency to bolster their defensive line-up has become paramount for Real Madrid. Their head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, currently has only one fit central defender in the squad, compounded by Nacho's suspension and the injury woes of David Alaba and Eder Militao. Additionally, key defenders like Nacho, Antonio Rudiger, and Alaba are all on the wrong side of 30, emphasizing the need for fresh talent.

Real Madrid have cast a wide net in their search for a new centre-back, with notable candidates like Ousmane Diomande, Giorgio Scalvini, and Malick Thiaw on their radar. Leny Yoro has emerged as a viable option, adding to the intrigue surrounding their summer transfer plans.

While there's also the possibility of integrating Rafa Marin into the first-team squad upon his return from a loan spell at Deportivo Alaves, Yoro seems to be the name that could headline Real Madrid's pursuit in the upcoming 2024 summer transfer window.

The stage is set, and football fans will be watching to see if Leny Yoro ultimately dons the iconic white jersey of Real Madrid, adding another chapter to the storied history of one of football's most prestigious clubs.
