PSG and Brazil star Neymar Jr appears to lose €1million during online poker in marketing ploy
Neymar Jr is currently on the sidelines following ankle surgery in March, though the Brazil and PSG forward continues to make headlines away from the pitch.
The 31-year-old, who is known to have taken part in the European Poker Tour, has been ruled out for the remainder of this season as he recovers from surgery.
Nevertheless, Neymar made headlines on Wednesday after appearing to lose €1million in an online poker game.
According to Brazilian news outlet Globo Esporte, this was nothing more than a marketing ploy by an online bookmaker. It's understood Neymar made 'no investment' in that particular game and, as a result, didn't lose any of his money.
Neymar's current contract with PSG earns him €30m per year - an amount that works out at €625,000 per week.
Since arriving in the French capital in 2017, the forward has struggled with injuries. The most Ligue 1 appearances made by the Brazilian in a single season is just 22 - back in 2021/22.
The forward made 20 league outings this season and won't surpass that number due to his current injury.
In recent times, there have been questions over Neymar's future in Paris.
The player's commitment has been under the microscope - something not helped by the fact he was spotted at a poker table just after his team's Champions League exit at the hands of Bayern Munich last month.
When asked about the situation, manager Christophe Galtier said: "I spoke to Neymar and told him what I thought. He has the right, on his day off, to play poker."
As things stand, Neymar Jr is expected to return next season.
