Pep Guardiola hopes Ederson will stay, amid Saudi transfer interest

Ederson and Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola has revealed that he would "understand" if goalkeeper Ederson decides to leave Manchester City to join the Saudi Pro League.

While the potential departure would bring "pain in the heart" to Guardiola, he has assured that no hard feelings would linger if Ederson chooses to move on.

"I'd like Ederson to decide his future as soon as possible. I only hope for him to stay with us," Guardiola told TNT Sports.

"He's a person I love, who I want. He's a 'porterazo' (great goalkeeper). If he has to go... with all the pain in the heart, I'll understand."

Ederson, who joined Manchester City from Benfica in 2017, has been a pivotal figure in the club's success, amassing 332 appearances and helping secure multiple Premier League titles, FA Cups, Carabao Cups, the Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

However, recent reports suggest that the Brazilian international is contemplating a move away from the Etihad Stadium, with speculation linking him to the Saudi Pro League.

The possibility of a transfer is heightened by the increasing competition for the No.1 spot at City, with Stefan Ortega potentially challenging Ederson for the role next season.

Additionally, Ederson's performance has shown signs of decline, with a noticeable increase in errors, which may influence both parties' decision to part ways this summer.

Manchester City are gearing up for a busy period, with a pre-season match against Chelsea scheduled for August 3 and the Community Shield clash against Manchester United at Wembley on August 10.

The new Premier League season kicks off on August 18, with City facing an away fixture against Chelsea.
