Osasuna secure convincing victory over Granada in La Liga clash
Osasuna secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Granada at El Sadar on Friday night, lifting them into ninth place in La Liga.
The home side took the lead in the first half through Ante Budimir, who doubled his tally from the penalty spot in the second half. Granada finished the game with 10 men after Lucas Boye was sent off for a second yellow card.
Osasuna started brightly and created a number of chances in the early stages. They took the lead in the 15th minute when Ruben Pena slid Budimir through on goal, and the Croatian striker finished coolly past Andre Ferreira.
Granada responded well and had a number of chances of their own to equalise. Gerard Gumbau stung the palms of Sergio Herrera with a shot from distance, while Lucas Boye twice went close, forcing Herrera into saves. However, Osasuna went into half-time with a one-goal lead.
Osasuna continued to dominate in the second half and doubled their lead in the 60th minute. Budimir was brought down in the box by Ferreira, and the referee awarded a penalty. Budimir stepped up and calmly sent Ferreira the wrong way to score his second goal of the game.
Granada's hopes of a comeback were further dented in the 75th minute when Boye was sent off for a second yellow card. Osasuna thought they had added a third goal in the closing stages through Raul Garcia de Haro, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Osasuna were worthy winners of the match and will be pleased to have secured their fourth La Liga win of the season. Granada, on the other hand, will be concerned about their recent form, having now lost their last three matches.
