New Man Utd signing Manuel Ugarte 'thrilled, hungry'

Manuel Ugarte

Manuel Ugarte described his transfer to Manchester United as "nerve-jangling" after being unveiled to fans at Old Trafford before the club's 3-0 defeat to Liverpool.

The 23-year-old midfielder, who joined from Paris Saint-Germain for an initial £42.3 million, acknowledged that he is entering a club in transition but expressed confidence in Sir Jim Ratcliffe's project.

Ugarte's arrival comes at a crucial time, as Manchester United look to stabilise their midfield following a difficult start to the season.

The match against Liverpool highlighted these challenges, with Casemiro making two costly mistakes that led to his substitution at half-time. Ugarte is expected to provide much-needed stability to the team's spine.

Manager Erik ten Hag has cautioned that it may take months for Ugarte to adjust to the demands of the Premier League. However, the Uruguayan international feels ready to contribute after the international break.

"I feel very good. I prepared myself and I'm always ready," he told Sport 890.

Ugarte, who has been called up by Uruguay for World Cup qualifiers, may feature in upcoming matches against Paraguay and Venezuela.

"It was a difficult month, I had to calm my anxiety a little, but now I am very happy, thrilled, hungry and excited," he said, as quoted by ESPN.

"It is a team in change, because new owners came, the project is very good. I love the atmosphere on a day-to-day basis, the desire to succeed that exists in the team and the history that the club has."

Manchester United's summer transfer window saw them spend around £180 million, with a net spend of approximately £93 million.
