Mikel Arteta: Kai Havertz could play in multiple positions for Arsenal
Mikel Arteta has revealed that Kai Havertz can be a utility player for Arsenal.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has suggested using the newly-acquired Kai Havertz as a target man and an offensive midfielder.
The Gunners secured Havertz's services for £65m from Chelsea this summer, with the German being one of three significant signings made by the club during the transfer window.
Jurrien Timber joined from Ajax for £34m, and Declan Rice arrived in north London for a British-record fee of £105m, inclusive of add-ons.
During the MLS skills challenge for volleys, Havertz became the first player ever to miss the target, but he quickly bounced back from that disappointment.
Less than 24 hours later, he netted a late goal in Thursday's 5-0 victory over the MLS All-Stars, marking his second appearance for the club.
After the match, Arteta faced numerous questions about the 24-year-old and hinted at his role in the team once competitive matches begin.
"He gives us something very different with his quality and size as well, when you have to beat the press for example and use him as a target man," Arteta said.
"So, we will see - for now, he's playing in the attacking midfield position, but I'm sure throughout the season and throughout games as well, we're going to have the options to play him in different positions."
