Mauricio Pochettino: Wesley Fofana injury means Chelsea need to sign a defender
Mauricio Pochettino is concerned that Wesley Fofana's injury leaves Chelsea short in defence.
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino believes it's crucial to sign a new defender after the unfortunate injury to centre-back Wesley Fofana.
The talented player underwent surgery for an ACL injury and will be sidelined for a considerable period.
Currently, Chelsea only have four senior centre-backs available, namely Thiago Silva, Benoit Badiashile, Levi Colwill, and Trevoh Chalobah, with Chalobah rumored to be departing the club.
To bolster their defence, Chelsea have reached a £38m agreement with Monaco to acquire the services of French international Axel Disasi, who was previously Badiashile's teammate.
Pochettino refrained from commenting on Disasi specifically, but he did acknowledge the necessity of reinforcing the defensive lineup.
"With Fofana's injury, I think it is obvious that maybe we need to reinforce this area. It is clear," he told the media.
Apart from strengthening the defence, Pochettino is also keen on bolstering the midfield with experienced players.
