Jamie Carragher warns Mohamed Salah to stay at Liverpool - or risk becoming another Coutinho

Mo Salah in action during Villarreal v Liverpool in the Champions League

Mohamed Salah's Liverpool contract expires in the summer of 2023 and the two parties have been unable to settle on a new deal.

Mohamed Salah has been warned about the dangers of leaving Liverpool while Jurgen Klopp is in charge, as Anfield legend Jamie Carragher sent out a "grass isn't always greener" message.

From the day the Egyptian stepped into the club, Salah has been an instant hit at Liverpool with his goals helping them win the Champions League, Premier League and two domestic cups this year.

Salah is challenging for a third Golden Boot in the Premier League this season, and has been smashing records since his amazing debut season.
With his contract expiring next summer, though, and no sign of an agreement between the player, his agent and the club, there is a lingering doubt about his future.
Sky Sports pundit Carragher said Salah needed to think about the likes of Gini Wijnaldum and Philippe Coutinho and how their moves away from Anfield didn't work out.

Why Mo Salah should sign a new deal

"I think Salah should sign," Carragher said on Sky Sports.
"Jurgen Klopp has turned good players into great players, and Mo Salah is one of them, he was a very good player that's now become a superstar.
"Gini Wijnaldum was one of them, Coutinho was one of them, another one was Emre Can who wasn't quite at that level.
"But they are three players who thought maybe they deserved more off Liverpool in terms of wages, made the move and it's never been the same for them."

Klopp the perfect fit for Salah

Carragher believes that Liverpool with Klopp in charge is the perfect fit for Salah - and his success at Anfield may not be replicated in new surroundings.

"I think that's a lesson for Mo Salah going forward," Carragher added. "This suits him in the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp suits him, this club suits him and this is where he's been a superstar.
"Nowhere else before, and he might do it somewhere else, but he should think about some of those players who have left Liverpool thinking perhaps the grass is greener and it hasn't worked.
"And look what Liverpool are doing."

Mane and Firmino to stay next season

With Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino also having contracts that expire in 2023, Liverpool have plenty of player admin to do this summer.

Bayern Munich are keen on signing Mane, but Carragher believes both of them will stay for next season, even if it could be the last for Brazilian forward Firmino.

"I think Sadio Mane will sign at some stage, Salah has been up in the air a bit and it's gone on for a few months," Carragher said.

"I think Roberto Firmino may see his contract out.
"The club may feel he's not getting enough games by the end of next season and he may then move on a free."
