Kylian Mbappe selected to make debut in European Super Cup final against Atalanta
Kylian Mbappe has been selected to make his debut for Real Madrid against Atalanta in the European Super Cup final in Warsaw on Wednesday evening.
Real Madrid are gunning for their first trophy of the 2024-25 season. They take on reigning Europa League champions Atalanta in the final of the UEFA Super Cup, with all of the build-up having been about Kylian Mbappe's impending debut for the club he officially joined earlier in the summer.
As expected, Mbappe does make his debut for Real Madrid in Warsaw — and it will be from the start. Carlo Ancelotti has named the line-up, and there are few surprises about the selection that has been made.
Thibaut Courtois starts in goal, with the defensive line-up being Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger and Fran Garcia. Because of Eduardo Camavinga's injury earlier in the week, the midfield almost picks instead — Federico Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni and Jude Bellingham, with Luka Modric on the bench.
In attack, Mbappe partners Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Junior. The Frenchman is set to start as the main striker, with the Brazilian pair on his right and left respectively.
Real Madrid will be determined to begin their season in style. They start as favourites, but Atalanta cannot be ruled out, despite their own injury problems in the build-up to the showpiece event.
