Aston Villa’s historic Champions League run reaches the quarter-finals stage this Wednesday night as Unai Emery’s men head across the channel for a tasty encounter with PSG (2000 GMT).

When Steven Gerrard was sacked from his job at Villa Park back in October 2022, few would have ever imagined that the club would be mixing it up with the elite of European football just two-and-a-half years later.

The initial expectation when the Villans first qualified for the competition was minimal. The Birmingham-based club were only meant to join the league phase, enjoy a few away days and go home without making a fuss.

Instead, Emery’s men have taken the competition by storm and have beaten the likes of Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Celtic in order to make the quarter-final stage.

Once again, the expectations on Villa are minimal as they prepare to go leather for leather with French champions PSG.

The Parisians took out competition favourites Liverpool in the previous round and will now be looking to do the same to yet another English club.

There is certainly a lot of momentum in the French camp, with the side coming into this game on the back of a 1-0 win over Angers which sealed their latest Ligue 1 crown.

Here, we take a closer look at Wednesday’s tasty encounter and pick out some of the best bets along the way.

Good luck, and please gamble responsibly.

    PSG to win and BTTS

Aston Villa’s fairytale Champions League run has been epic, but just like any other fairytale, it has to end.

PSG underlined their European title credentials by knocking out Liverpool from the competition and they are expected to get past Villa without too many problems.

While the English side are in the midst of a seven-match winning run across all competitions, the level of opposition on Wednesday will come from a whole different level.

We’re backing the Villans to give a good account of themselves in the opening leg, but when it comes down to the brass tax, we expect PSG to come away with a lead.

With that in mind, we’re putting our chips on a PSG win and both teams to score – a bet which has landed in three of their last four games.

PSG to win the first half

PSG haven’t won the first half in their last three games, but then again, how seriously did they take Angers, Dunkerque and St Etienne.

When it comes to high-stakes matches, PSG tend to start well. Luis Enrique’s side won the first half against Marseille and Liverpool – their last two legitimate tests.

With that in mind, we’re backing PSG to make another bright start against Aston Villa and win the opening 45 minutes.

    Ousmane Dembele to score anytime

Ousmane Dembele has faced questions throughout his career, but its fair to say that the Frenchman is finally hitting his stride at PSG.

The forward heads into Wednesday’s game in good form, having recently scored against Lille, Liverpool, Marseille and braces against Rennes and Dunkerque.

The 27-year-old is the man to watch against Villa and we’re backing him to get on the scoresheet anytime.

    PSG -3.5 corner handicap

Make no bones about it, while we are expecting Aston Villa to give a good account of themselves, PSG will be looking to dominate proceedings from the very first whistle.

With the French side playing at home, Enrique’s men will spend the majority of the game banging on Villa’s door. If that is the case, the number of corners should favour the hosts by a big margin.
