Ilkay Gundogan seeks summer exit from FC Barcelona

Ilkay Gundogan has reportedly notified FC Barcelona of his intent to leave the club this summer, as reported by Sport.

The German midfielder, who joined the Catalan side from Manchester City in 2023, has found it challenging to secure a regular spot in the line-up of new coach Hansi Flick.

With just one year left on his contract, Barcelona are open to parting ways with Gundogan if a suitable offer comes through.

His desire to depart has attracted interest from multiple suitors, including Turkish giants Fenerbahce and various Saudi Arabian teams.

Fenerbahce, managed by Jose Mourinho, are particularly eager to bring in the experienced playmaker. Additionally, Saudi clubs are keeping a close eye on the situation.

Gundogan, of Turkish descent and fluent in the language, would find it relatively easy to adjust to life at Fenerbahce, given his connections to the country.

Despite being a valuable player for Barcelona since his arrival, his exclusion from the squad for their opening La Liga match against Valencia underscores his uncertain future with the club.

As the transfer window remains open, Gundogan will be hoping to secure a move that will allow him to continue his career at the highest level.

His absence from the matchday squad in Barcelona's 2-1 victory over Valencia highlights the pressing nature of his situation.
