Groin injury rules Cardiff City's Callum O’Dowda out of Ireland's Euro 2024 qualifier against France

Winger Callum O’Dowda lost his race against time to be fit for Ireland's Euro 2024 qualifier against France on Monday night.

The 27-year-old Cardiff midfielder, who lined up at left wing-back in last week's 3-2 friendly victory over Latvia, has been nursing a groin injury in recent days and has not been included in the matchday squad of 23 submitted to UEFA.
However, skipper Seamus Coleman, who was a doubt with a thigh problem, did make the list, easing at least one headache for manager Stephen Kenny.
O'Dowda's place could be taken by James McClean, who is in line to win his 98th cap, although Atletico Madrid's right-sided defender Matt Doherty has also deputised on the left for his country in the recent past.
