Welsh FA would be 'delighted' to have Gareth Bale playing nearby, amid Cardiff City speculation

Gareth Bale

After confirming his exit from Real Madrid, Gareth Bale's looking for a new club before he leads Wales to their first World Cup in 64 years this winter.

Gareth Bale's heroics against Ukraine last week ensured Wales qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 64 years, and now the 32-year-old could be heading back to his Welsh roots for his club football too.

After nine years in Madrid, winning multiple honours including five Champions League titles, Bale announced his departure from the Spanish side earlier this month, making him a free agent this summer.

Cardiff City have emerged as an unlikely favourite to land Bale, and it's a move that the Welsh FA can get onboard with.

Welsh FA boss Noel Mooney said "He is a very special talent and we are very lucky that he is from Cymru (Wales), he grew up up the road in Whitchurch in Cardiff.
"His club situation is absolutely up to himself, who he signs for. I hope for him he makes the right decision in lots of ways.
"As long as he's leading us out in the FIFA World Cup come November we'll be happy.
"We are here at the Cardiff City Stadium, and the FAW is out at the Vale of Glamorgan, which is not so far.
"So from a logistical perspective, and the FAW being selfish about it, if he did come back to this area - or anywhere nearby to be fair - we'd be delighted because we'd see more of him.
"The more we see of Gareth the better. It doesn't have to be Cardiff City by the way, but if he does come back to this part of the world we'd be very happy."

Bale's agent also hinted that his client's next move will "not be about money", with Bale wanting to prioritise his time with Wales.
Further rumours have linked the Welshman to Newcastle United and the MLS, but it seems he is yet to make a final decision on his next move.
