Exclusive: Robbie Savage makes Newcastle title admission as Magpies start with five-star display

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe

Planet Sport Bet ambassador Robbie Savage takes a closer look at Newcastle United's title chances.

Newcastle United ran riot in their Premier League opener as they put Aston Villa to the sword in a 5-1 win.

Sandro Tonali bagged the opener six minutes into his debut, while Alexander Isak grabbed a brace.
Callum Wilson and Harvey Barnes added their names to the scoresheet late on in the match to send the Magpies to the top of the Premier League table.
Newcastle's top four run last season, coupled with their furious start to the campaign has left many wondering whether they can push on for higher honours this term.

Former Premier League midfielder told Planet Sport: "What a start it was for Newcastle United, a 5-1 win. What I will say, the atmosphere at St James' Park, scoring goals, creativity. The biggest thing is strength in depth.

"Players coming off the bench, Harvey Barnes - a goal and an assist. Callum Wilson - a goal. Tonali, what a signing he has been. A goal in the opening 10 minutes.
"I think there's such a good feeling about Newcastle, their strength in depth, players coming off the bench, and players who didn't get on but who performed last season.
"I think they've made some fantastic signings, got a very good coach in Eddie Howe."
When asked whether the club can compete on both the domestic and European fronts, Savage added: "Premier League and European football, can they combine the two in their first season back in the Champions League? It's going to be difficult. That's where the squad will become key.
"Squads win trophies. You've got your first eleven but it's about the 25. That is what's going to win you trophies.
"How that squad is utilised with Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, Premier League by the manager will dictate how successful Newcastle are.
"I don't think Newcastle will win the league, I tipped them to finish outside the top four.
"It was a great start against an Aston Villa side who many have tipped to get into the top four.
"Dan Burn has done really well. I think in midfield they're very strong. In the forwards, Isak - what a player he is. I think he could score 20 goals a season for Newcastle United.
"Can they win the league - no. Can they get in the top four - it will be difficult. But what a start it was for Newcastle United."
Newcastle face a huge test next Saturday as they travel away to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City.
A week later they will take on Liverpool at St James' Park in another potential thriller.
