Chelsea join race with Aston Villa, Tottenham and West Ham for top Spanish defender

Chelsea have thrown their hat in the ring for the signature of defender Mario Hermoso on a free transfer.
But the West London club will have a fight on their hands with Aston Villa, Tottenham and West Ham already fluttering their eyelashes at the former Atletico Madrid man.
According to Radio Punto Nuovo, the Blues have now entered the race for Hermoso who was believed to be close to signing for Villa in May, after Unai Emery reportedly swooped in ahead of Inter Milan.
Tottenham and West Ham joined the pursuit recently and not wanting to feel left out by their London rivals Chelsea have now started sidling across the dancefloor.
While the Premier League scrap it out, Hermoso is still on Inter Milan's radar and could also be tempted by a move to Saudi Arabia.
Hermoso made 31 La Liga appearances for Atletico Madrid last season, and 174 across all competitions in total for the club.
The 29-year-old, who was part of the squad that won La Liga in the 2020/21 season has five international caps and can also play left-back as well as centre-half.
