Borussia Dortmund rule out January return for Jadon Sancho amidst controversy

Jadon Sancho Manchester United Dec21

Borussia Dortmund have firmly shut the door on the prospect of bringing back Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho during the upcoming January transfer window, as reported by SportBILD.

The 23-year-old English international, whose relationship with Manchester United has recently hit a rocky patch, has been the subject of speculation regarding a possible return to his former club.

Sancho's predicament with the Red Devils stems from his suspension following a public outburst directed at manager Erik ten Hag. This episode followed a Premier League defeat at the hands of Arsenal, and it resulted in Sancho being relegated to training apart from the first-team squad.

It appears that the winger's path back into the manager's plans hinges on him issuing a formal apology.

Despite the rumours circulating about a potential reunion with Borussia Dortmund, SportBILD has made it clear that the German club have no interest in reacquiring Sancho at this point. In their words, the 23-year-old is "simply not an issue" for Dortmund as of now. This revelation suggests that other possibilities may be on the horizon for the talented winger during the winter transfer window.

Sancho left a lasting impression during his time with Dortmund, amassing an impressive record of 50 goals and 64 assists from just 137 appearances across all competitions. However, his transition to Old Trafford has seen him struggle to replicate that form, with just 12 goals and six assists from 82 appearances under multiple managers.

Manager Ten Hag's decision to drop Sancho from the squad, citing concerns about his training intensity, was met with understanding by many. However, Sancho's public criticism of the manager's decision took everyone by surprise.

Consequently, he finds himself banished from first-team training and has yet to extend an apology to Ten Hag, which remains the primary reason for his ongoing suspension.

Time remains on Sancho's side to make amends for his actions. However, a prompt apology is crucial if he hopes to mend relations with his current club and avoid the possibility of being offloaded in the near future.
