Bayer Leverkusen chief is convinced Xabi Alonso will turn down Real Madrid
Bayer Leverkusen are confident that head coach Xabi Alonso will stay with the club past 2024 despite reported interest from Real Madrid.
Current Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti is likely to part ways with the club when his current contract expires, as he appears destined to take over as Brazil coach.
Ancelotti has also stated that Alonso, who is a former Real Madrid player, probably wants to manage the Spanish giants one day.
This has led to speculation that Alonso would be keen to take over the reins from Ancelotti next season.
However, Leverkusen remain convinced they will be able to retain the former Liverpool star's services beyond 2024.
"We got his commitment a few weeks ago, when he extended his contract," said Bayer Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes, as per reports from Mundo Deportivo.
"Xabi doesn't have to say anything. He has extended his contract. He's fully focused here."
