Arsenal news: Gunners hand new deal to Switzerland captain Lia Walti
Arsenal have signed a new deal with 'one of the best midfielders in world'.
Switzerland captain Lia Walti has committed her future to Arsenal by signing a new contract with the Women's Super League club.
Midfielder Walti has made 128 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners, having joined from German side Turbine Potsdam in 2018.
The length of the 30-year-old's new deal has not been disclosed.
Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall said in a club statement: "She is one of the best midfielders in world football and brings us so much in terms of leadership and presence.
"Lia has played a pivotal role within this team during my time here and I'm looking forward to continuing to work together to achieve our goals."
Walti, who is poised to lead her country at this summer's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, helped Arsenal win the WSL title in 2019 and the FA Women's League Cup in March this year.
"Arsenal means so much to me - it felt like home from the moment I joined," she said.
"This is an exciting time to be a part of Arsenal and I want to keep making new memories with this group."
