Soccer matches this weekend - local and international
A weekend full of soccer excitement is ahead of us as we are already halfway through the season.
From now on, every soccer match could determine a champion of their league.
Point gaps in every league, both local and international are very tight and we still can’t predict how the final look at the table will look like. Also, a game-changer is the January transfer window and a lot of rumours on unexpected transfers are around where every one of them could turn a season in and out.
Whether you are a passionate hometown club supporter or a big fan of some glorious club from the top leagues, this weekend is set for marking your calendar.
Local matches
Speaking of local matches, the upcoming week brings many games from local European leagues.
The upcoming weekend in the Premier League, matchday 22, doesn’t bring derbies but a game that is surely going to be interesting is:
- Emirates Stadium (London), 18:30 - 18th January
Arsenal F.C. (3rd) - Aston Villa (8th)
With Arsenal facing elimination the previous weekend in the FA Cup, this game is a must-win for them and it guarantees them a 2nd place in the league keeping up with Liverpool and holding hopes for their fans on winning the league for the first time since the famous “Invincible” season in 2004. Aston Villa, with the help of their best striker, Ollie Watkins, will look to ruin their plans as a win for them brings them into the battle for the European spot next season.
On the same day big clash between Italian giants is set for Serie A :
- Allianz Stadium (Torino), 18th January - 18:00
Juventus F.C (5th) - AC Milan (7th)
On the table, they are almost equal as Juventus leads by three points but also has one more match played. Juventus looks for revenge considering Milan eliminated them from the Super Cup, which they went on to winning led by new manager Sergio Conceicao who replaced Paulo Fonesca at the end of the year.
Both teams are also going to play games three days later in the Champions League which is being played for the first time ever in January because of the new format. More games for players but more excitement for fans.
International matches
This round of the Champions League is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, as we have been accustomed to for years. Currently, Liverpool, Barcelona, Arsenal, and Bayer Leverkusen hold the top 4, but Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen have the same amount of points as everyone below them in the first part of the table. That surely means that after these fixtures, the table will look different.
- Metropolitano Stadium (Madrid), 21st January - 21:00
Atletico Madrid (11th) - Bayer Leverkusen (4th)
Giants from Spain and Germany both have a good season so far fighting for first place in their domestic leagues. Atletico Madrid is in front of Real Madrid and Barcelona and Diego Simeone’s team look to continue their good run in the Champions League. They don’t have an easy task considering they will have to face a squad that was unbeaten in the league last season, winning the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal. Atletico Madrid has the advantage of home field but they will have to keep an eye on Bayer’s central attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz who already scored five goals and provided one assist in this season’s Champions League.
- Parc des Princes (Paris), 22nd January - 21:00
Paris Saint - Germain (25th) - Manchester City (22nd)
Manchester City is in their worst form in the last couple of years and a win against PSG would get them back on track. The team from Paris looks to join the second half of the table with the win, especially considering their confidence boost after signing superstar from Napoli, Kvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Fan Engagement
Speaking of the Champions League, many broadcast partners are allowing you to watch the tournament wherever you are. Most of the games will also be available on popular sports channels like ESPN, Sky Sports and beIN Sports.
The games from the Premier League and Serie A mentioned are being played at the same time and with help of streaming services, like for example FuboTV, could be your solution to not missing out on any of that.
Remember: watching it on TV could not be comparable to seeing it live. You should consider making that a top priority with not only securing yourself a unique experience, but also supporting your local club helping them to reach their goal this season.
Support Your Team This Weekend and Beyond
A weekend full of action is ahead of us and so is the rest of the season. Whether your team is fighting for first place or just staying in the league, support is the key they are going to need to finish this season. Getting involved is not just watching but also being a part of one big family.
