Multiple Group 2 placegetter WATERFORD (2) drifted well back last start then wound up strongly to finish sixth, beaten 3.5 lengths, over 1m at Randwick. Well placed and the one to beat. FONISKA (9) has been out of the placings in two runs since a break, the latest when fifth, beaten 4.5 lengths, over 1m2f in the LR Lord Mayor's Cup at Randwick. Will strip fitter and can find peak form this time. Group 3 placegetter LORD ARDMORE (10) showed little early speed last start and failed to come on in the straight when 14th, beaten 6 lengths, over 1m at Randwick. Meets some better types this time but a big run will not surprise. Group 2 winner BABY RIDER (8) was unplaced two runs back when fresh from a lay-off then again missed the frame last start over 1m2f at Flemington, beaten 5.5 lengths into 12th. No surprise to see him in the mix.
