NAMARA (9) started at big odds on debut last start but ran a bold race, finishing third and beaten 1.5 lengths over 6f at Beaumont (Newcastle). Likely improver who should go well. ALFRED (13) was well in commission when resuming last start over 6½f at Tuncurry but could only manage fifth, although only 2.5 lengths from the winner. Meets a tougher line-up this time but he is a leading contender. ESCALANTE (3) worked home well and finished second last time over 5½f at Scone when resuming from a lay-off, beaten 2.5 lengths. Goes up a rung or two but he is capable of running a bold race. SPANDEX (8) was out of the money when resuming from a lay-off last start over 5½f at Canterbury, beaten 5.5 lengths after being in contention on the bend. Fitter so can feature in the finish.
