SIR MAURICE (2) returned last time with a solid third at Queanbeyan over 6f after being in contention on the turn. This is the right race and can get the job done. VELLA ICON (6) did little and finished 6 lengths from the winner in seventh over 6f87yards at this track last start, a less impressive effort than her sixth at this track the run before. Nicely placed to take this out. SOOBY ROSE (5) is a three-start maiden who resumed from a lay-off last start and was beaten 3.5 lengths when fourth over 6f at Sapphire Coast. Will take a lot from that hitout and looks a strong chance to break through. AMERICAN KESTREL (3) was responsible for a better run last start, beaten 5.5 lengths into fifth over 4½f at Albury. No surprise to see her in contention.
