Tottenham vs Burnley tips and predictions: More Spursy goings on as hosts win thriller
The grand entertainers that are Tottenham Hotspur will host relegation-threatened Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon (1500 BST)
On one hand, you’d expect a team in fifth chasing European football to have the beating of a team that is, in truth, almost certain to be relegated.
On the other hand, Tottenham are an absolute shambles. Why sugarcoat it when we can just be succinct? Spurs have been rotten for weeks.
They’ve trailed 4-0, 3-0, 3-0 and 2-0 in their last four matches but the saving grace may be they’ve played a considerably tougher fixture list than Burnley at home.
Still, the Clarets are fighting the good fight. It looked a tall order for any of the promoted sides to survive and it looks like all three will take the plunge.
Vincent Kompany’s side has avoided defeat in seven of 10, making life hard for the likes of Man Utd, Brighton, Chelsea and West Ham, yet a lack of wins has been their downfall.
A first-half collapse at home to Newcastle has sealed their fate but Dara O’Shea’s late consolation means they’ve scored in eight of their last nine matches.
Spurs love conceding a goal. They’ve allowed 19 in their last eight outings. They’ve also made a habit of falling behind against teams in the lower reaches of the table.
Luton, Crystal Palace, Wolves, Brentford and Sheffield United have all taken the lead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but Spurs were able to win four of those matches.
Tottenham fans have now been treated to (or tormented by) both teams scoring and three or more goals in their last 13 Premier League home matches.
If it isn’t broken, why try fixing it? We’ll bet on both teams to score, plenty of goals, and for Spurs to do more Spursy things.
Team news
Fraser Forster, Ryan Sessegnon, Destiny Udogie, Ben Davies, Manor Solomon and Timo Werner are unavailable due to injury.
Brennan Johnson, James Maddison, Son Heung-min and Richarlison will likely continue in the attack.
Burnley will be without the services of Jordan Bayer, Ameen Al Dakhil, Aaron Ramsey and Nathan Redmond.
Maxime Esteve and Luca Koleosho are also doubts.
