Newcastle vs Bournemouth tips and predictions: Goals galore at St James' Park

Lewis Miley of Newcastle United

Newcastle hope to keep their European push alive against stuttering Bournemouth in the Premier League at St James' Park on Saturday afternoon.

Injuries have derailed Newcastle’s season but the Toon are running out of time to make a final push for the Champions League places.

Eddie Howe’s side are currently occupying seventh place, which could yet mean a spot in Europe, and are just five points behind Manchester United.

They cannot afford for the gap to get any bigger and luckily for them, they’re unbeaten in four having rediscovered their shooting boots.

Bournemouth became fearsome opposition for a period after Andoni Iraola’s methods finally clicked, but the Cherries have been wobbling for the past few weeks.

Tottenham, Liverpool and Fulham found the net three times against them and recent evidence suggests Newcastle could do the same.

The Magpies are averaging close to three goals per game through their last six and are fresh off of a confidence-boosting win over Nottingham Forest.

On the other hand, they may feel like they owe the home faithful a performance after playing out a bizarre 4-4 draw with Luton the last time they were at St James’ Park.

Regardless of which way their form has been trending, Bournemouth have found the net in 11 of 12 away matches, so it won’t be plane sailing for the hosts.

Our projections suggest there’s a 50/50 chance of four or more goals in the match, so the odds about over 3.5 are worth taking.

Another angle worth considering is over 1.5 first-half goals. The scoring has been opened inside 10 minutes in six of Bournemouth’s last 10.

Team news

When it rains for Newcastle United, it generally pours. Alexander Isak is back in the treatment room alongside Joelinton, Nick Pope, Matt Targett, Elliot Anderson and Joe Willock.

In addition, Callum Wilson and Jacob Murphy are doubts while Sandro Tonali is suspended.

Bournemouth will be without James Hill, Tyler Adams, Ryan Fredericks and Max Aarons due to injury, while Philip Billing is suspended for a red card offence.
