Euro 2024: Spain vs France tips and predictions – Tight margins will determine who bags Berlin ticket

Luis de la Fuente

Two behemoths of international football go head-to-head on Tuesday night as Spain and France battle for a spot in the Euro 2024 final (2000 BST).

In what has been a dry tournament, Spain have been one of the few teams to show some quality.

The Spaniards powered through their group with ease, picking up maximum points, scoring five goals and conceding none along the way.

The knockout stages also kicked off with a bang as Spain put four goals past Georgia in a statement-making drubbing.

Speaking of statement-making victories, their 2-1 win over hosts Germany certainly made Luis de la Fuente’s men the leading contenders for the title.

Spain’s opponents, on the other hand, have been suffering from England-itis.

France, similarly to the Three Lions, have trudged their way to the semi-finals and are yet to show the qualities which took them to the World Cup final just a couple years ago.

During the group stage, France scored just two goals – one own goal from Austria and the other a penalty against Poland.

The knockout stages saw them edge France by a single strike, while in the quarter-finals they got through on penalties.

We’re all waiting for the Didier Deschamps’ men to play with their usual flair and excitement, and who’s to say that we couldn’t see that in Munich this Tuesday night.

Trouble is, if France couldn’t turn on the style in five straight games at the tournament, what is the likelihood they will all of a sudden turn the screw.

Spain, on the other hand, have displayed tremendous quality at times. While their win over Germany may have been somewhat fortunate, it’s fair to say that the Spaniards are one of the very few teams to have genuinely been entertaining to watch.

Tuesday’s encounter will be a close one and we’re backing one goal to determine the winner.

The one goal winning margin bet has landed in three of the last four meetings and it offers good odds ahead of the semi-final.

Team news

Spain head into the match without the suspended pair of right-back Dani Carvajal and defender Robin Le Normand.

Pedri was forced off in the match against Germany and will not play again at the tournament.

France have no suspensions to worry about as Adrien Rabiot returns from his one-match ban.

Kylian Mbappe remains a concern with his nose injury, but he is expected to play a full part in the semi-final.
