Euro 2024: Poland vs Netherlands tips and predictions – Dutch dynamite too much for toothless Eagles
The Netherlands begin their hunt for a second European Championship title on Sunday afternoon as they take on Poland in Hamburg (1400 BST).
It’s been 36 years since Netherlands claimed their one and only European Championship triumph.
Ronald Koeman will be hoping to lead his nation to the second crown, but before they can think about the Henri Delaunay Trophy, they must overcome a tricky group featuring Poland, France and Austria.
Poland are arguably the weakest side in the group having qualified for the tournament the long way around.
The Poles finished third in their qualifying group but got a second bite at the cherry via the play-offs. A win over Estonia followed by a penalty-shootout success against Wales secured Poland’s ticket to Germany.
Ask anyone about the Eagles and they will likely mention one name – Robert Lewandowski.
Unfortunately for the Poles, their biggest threat won’t take part in the Euros opener after picking up an injury during a recent international friendly.
Their second-best striker Arkadiusz Milik is also not an option as the Juventus forward misses the tournament due to injury.
With Poland missing their two main attacking assets, our recommendation is to back the Netherlands to win this match to nil.
Koeman’s side have won six of their last seven internationals, winning the last two matches 4-0 against Iceland and Canada. With that in mind, you simply can’t look past a comprehensive Dutch victory.
